As a member of the Teaching and Learning Technical team, main duties include: preparation of materials for under- and post-graduate practical classes; troubleshooting practical issues as they arise; demonstrating instrumentation and techniques to students and colleagues; developing future practical classes in collaboration with academic staff; providing cross-team support for project students; assisting with the generation, implementation and review of health and safety, quality management and other operational procedures and systems; undertaking the maintenance, repair and loan of equipment and technical resources; provision of daily supervision for other staff, visitors and placement students; following operational processes and systems within my area of responsibility, such as chemical procurement or use of hazardous reagents; provision of technical support and training to develop the use of specialist equipment, techniques and spaces; assisting with stock control and chemical inventory as part of the wider team; implementation and compliance of health and safety procedures and regulations, as well as management of segregated waste streams and hazardous substances; taking responsibility for own area of work, acting decisively and ensuring effective delivery of laboratory classes by planning and managing own workload.

Provision of Biology teaching to KS3-KS5. (Classroom expositions, marking pupil work, undertaking practical experimentation etc). Between 10-30 % of contact time has previously been allocated to teaching Chemistry and/or Physics. Regular tracking of pupil effort and attainment via regular reporting cycles, implementation of intervention strategies. Liaison with technical staff and other teaching staff regarding teaching provision, developing schemes of work, sharing best practice, equipment needs, pupil progress, etc. Operation of Biology support clinics and other after-school activities. Biology specifications taught since 2009 include: Cambridge IGCSE, Edexcel and AQA GCSE, WJEC AS/A Level, AQA A Level. Provision of pastoral care, previously as a form tutor and as Head of Year. Including: liaising with parents; resolution of discipline issues; discussing effort reports and monitoring grades with tutees; prevention of bullying, racism and discrimination; attendance at parents' evenings; attendance at whole school and year-group assemblies; issuance of merit/behaviour notifications; management of administration, such as weekly checking of homework diaries, issuance of notices, etc.; meeting with middle/senior management regarding form tutor role and year group meetings. PSHE provision. In addition to teaching Biology, extracurricular support of the RAF Section of the College's Combined Cadet Force as a commissioned officer in the RAF Air Cadets. Involving overseeing and delivering the cadet training syllabus, (which includes aviation-related topics as well as training with weapon systems, leadership and command tasks, and field craft skills, such as navigation), liaising with Headquarters Air Cadets, administration such as Health and Consent forms, Risk Assessments, and IT training packages, publication of weekly orders, uniform issue, organising and accompanying flying trips, field days and Easter/Summer camps for cadets, etc.
