About Dr Dave Schrader

Deep experience in Big Data, Data-Driven Marketing, and Data Warehousing from 35 years in industry. Retired, but stay active helping students and faculty learn analytics by doing sports projects. In the fall of 2023, a team of seniors at Auburn did a fall capstone project looking at the Defense for the Bengals. In the spring of 2022, two teams of MBAs from Oklahoma State did a cricket analytics project under the direction of my former colleague at Teradata Fawad Qureshi and myself. In the spring of 2021, I had 5 teams of students at Purdue, LSU, and Auburn work on 32 high school football game's worth of data from 2 Michigan high school coaches. They did everything from cascaded decision tree predictions of next plays to Sankey diagrams of what defenses fail to prevent explosive plays. One team - Purdue - even did some Monte Carlo simulations on game score differentials under different play strategies and built a press-box quick visualization tool for what next play is coming at a defense, or what play an offense should call, given real time factors. I also did a 5 year project on doing better collegiate recruiting of high school wrestlers for the University of Dubuque using 20+ factors to predict who are the best matches for his team. Was a mentor for a team from the Women in Sports Soccer Hackathon,. Fun to do, keeps me very busy!Am a board member of the Teradata University for Academics, a free resource for faculty and students. Have built a large number of teaching materials on sports analytics - an exciting area where analytics can help athletes and teams, as well as providing motivation for students to learn databases, computer science, math, and stats skills. Pre-Covid was active on the college speaking circuit - in 3 years I did 140 talks at 70 schools to 5000+ attendees. As of Spring 2023, am a master instructor for a Caltech certificate program in data science, doing guest lectures.Beyond this, run a small team of data analytics people who analyze voter data for all levels of candidates within the Libertarian Party, creating propensity models based on demographic and psychographic data to spot people who might vote for Libertarian issues or candidates in elections, We provide inputs to campaigns on target selection, message effectiveness, channel choices, etc. More fun!
