Graduating from the University of Exeter in 1969, Dr Tripp taught English in UK Secondary schools before completing a PhD in evaluation with Edward de Bono at Cambridge in 1978. Since then he has mostly worked in qualitative and action research, curriculum, program evaluation, and professional development at Murdoch University. Overseas work has included: invited visiting Senior Fellow in Policy and Management Studies at the National Institute of Education, Singapore (2001-3), Noted Scholar in Residence at the University of British Columbia (1990, 2003), and Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Exeter (2001-2004).Within the general framework of the learning organisation, Dr Tripp specialises in action learning processes in professional and organisational learning, change and development. More specifically, he has particular expertise in reflective practice, action research, program evaluation and qualitative research methods in life-long learning and participatory, workplace-based improvement processes.He has pioneered a journal writing and critical incident approach to reflective practice, and his book on the method (Routledge, 1993) is a widely used text, one of the first four books selected for publication in the Routledge ‘Education Classics’ series.At Murdoch University he developed and taught a Master’s unit on action research from 1979 to 2001; in 2000, a 5-year evaluation of the unit showed that 63% of the students rated it the most useful unit of their degree.David is now working on the role of ‘principles of practice’ in professional practice and research, and has just begun to develop a 'wkik-style' website for this at http://www.prinsofprac.com.
