Have conducted extensive research in the field of plant pathology both in the United States and India. My research focus has mainly been on studying the host-pathogen interactions at the molecular level. For my Master's, I worked with Dr. Robert Brueggeman on the barley-stem rust (Ug99 race) pathosystem and performed allele sequencing and expression analysis of the genes involved in resistance at RMRL (resistance locus in barley against stem rust race Ug99) using RT-PCR (published in "Phytopathology" in 2013). Later, I held a position of young professional-II with National Research Centre on Plant Biotechnology (NRCPB), Delhi in Dr. B.L. Patil lab where I performed genetic diversity analysis of Pigeonpea sterility mosaic virus (PPSMV) samples collected from different parts of India using high throughput sequencing and also performed whole genome sequencing and gene characterization of PPSMV using RT-PCR (published in "Journal of Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology" in 2018). I was also involved in developing RNAi constructs for some geminiviruses. Currently, I am a PhD candidate working in Dr. Guiping Yan's lab at NDSU where I have been mostly involved in developing qPCR assays for identification and quantification of root -lesion nematodes directly in soil and plant roots. My most recent project is focused on studying the transcriptomics of the corn-P. scribneri (a root lesion nematode) system to look for the potential resistance and parasitism genes. My skillset includes a hands on experience on various different techniques of molecular biology, plant sciences (plant diseases), manuscript and grant proposal writing, a good record keeping and meeting deadlines. With almost 8 plus years of experience working with different plant pathogens and molecular plant pathology, I see myself well equipped to work in any senior level position in this or a related area. As a molecular plant pathologist, I commit to use my knowledge, time and skills for the betterment of the institution/company I would work for and for the mankind as a whole.
