About Dr. Douglas Olson

Douglas is the Director of choirs at Lead/Deadwood High School and Middle School. He has served as the director of the University Chorus and University Chorale and taught private voice at Kent State University Stark Campus and as a guest music director for Voices of Canton in the Fall of 2018 for their Bernstein at 100 concert and Christmas at the Movies concert. He has served as the Choir Director and Voice Professor at Kentucky Christian University. He has served as an associate professor of music at Indiana Wesleyan University, the founding director of the South Indianapolis Choral Society and is a graduate in choral conducting and vocal performance at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. While there he studied with notable choral musicians Dr. Dale Warland, Dr. Vance George, Dr. Carmen Tellez, Dr. William J. Gray, Mr. Robert Porco and Dr. Paul Krasnovsky. His studies also included work in orchestral conducting under the tutelage of maestri Arthur Fagen, David Effron and Thomas Baldner. Douglas Olson is an accomplished tenor singing regionally in opera, church, college and civic events. Most recently he performed the lead role of Schulz in Verlorene Heimat, a new work by Dr. Dawn Sonntag of Hiram College. He has performed as Count Graf Albert in Die tote Stadt and the role of Gastone in La Traviata with the Cleveland Opera Circle. He was the soloist for the opening chapel at Indiana Wesleyan University. He has been a featured soloist in the Annual Christmas Concert for The Chapel in Akron Ohio, as well as numerous large conferences and televised events.His work in opera workshop with soprano Carol Vaness included several roles. Douglas performed the role of Jim Bowie in a new ready for Broadway production of "The Alamo". He holds a DM in vocal performance and an MM in choral conducting from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music as a student of Distinguished Professor and Met Opera Baritone Timothy Noble.
