About Dr Eric K. Ogunleye

I have over 15 years of progressively responsible, practical and demonstrable hands-on experience as a macroeconomist, development economist, M&E specialist, public governance and regulatory reform expert, policy advisor and project director and manager with work experiences straddling all research and policy advisory divides. I am currently the Advisor to the Vice President and Chief Economist of the African Development Bank, Manager of the Front Office of the Chief Economist and VP and Coordinator of the work program of the six Departments in the Complex. I am also the OIC-Manager of the Policy Management Division of the African Development Institute where I lead the Bank’s policy work on capacity development, policy dialogue, and knowledge brokerage in regional member countries. One of my most recent achievements is leading and coordinating the Bank Group’s effort in articulating the Bank Group’s strategy for assisting African countries to manage their debt in the face of COVID-induced fiscal stress - Multidimensional Action Plan for the Management and Mitigation of Debt Distress Risks in Africa, 2021 – 2023. Prior to this role, I accumulated several years of work experience at the highest national policymaking level with the Government of Nigeria as a Special Assistant (International Trade and Finance) to the President of Nigeria, Special Adviser to the Chief Economic Adviser to the President of Nigeria and more recently as Technical Adviser (Policy and Planning) to the Honourable Minister of Budget and National Planning. I was a core member of the team that drafted Nigeria’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan. Earlier, I had stints in key institutions that include UNCTAD, UNU-WIDER, World Trade Organization, and African Center for Economic Transformation. I hold a B.Sc. (First Class Honors) in Economics from the University of Calabar, Nigeria and a Ph.D. from the University of Ibadan through the prestigious AERC collaborative PhD. Program,
