After a long time in academia and my ever growing interest in machine learning and its applications, I have jumped into the private sector a few years back, and how could that have been more rewarding than co-founding a start-up? So this is how I entered the very exiting world of image recognition and retrieval (CBIR) with deep neural networks in order to build SYTE, the intuitive visual product discovery platform for online retailers.Before that, next to experimental particle physics data analysis, I have built a particle tracking detector and co-developed TMVA, our "Toolkit for Multivariate Analysis"​ the machine learning suite that due to its performance and ease of use all but revolutionised how "selecting the interesting from the noise or background"​ is done by the high energy physics communiity.
