Thesis) Towards Catalytic Activation of Nitrogen in Ionic Liquid/Carbon Interfaces for Electrochemical Ammonia Synthesis:Ammonia is an important chemical, which is essential for the vital nitrogen cycle of nature, needed by living organisms as a source of food and energy. Unlike nature, artificial conversion of nitrogen from air to chemically usable ammonia is not easy because of the high stability of the N-N triple bond. The industrial ammonia production is predominated by Haber- Bosch process based on direct conversion of nitrogen and hydrogen gas under harsh conditions (~ 350-550 °C, 200-300 bar). However, it has thermodynamic and kinetic limitations in terms of the environment and global energy economy. Because of these critical limitations, since last decades, an alternative process to the Haber-Bosch (HB) process have been sought and possible methods for the synthesis of ammonia through electrochemical processes have been tried with different methods. Conversely to traditional HB process, it is aimed to perform a catalyst- free electrochemical ammonia synthesis, based on conversion of water (water electrolysis) and nitrogen gas to ammonia at ambient operation conditions (25°C, 1 bar) in ionic liquid electrolyte with a porous carbon working electrode. -

Thesis) Design of 3D Mini-reactor for Solar Fuel Research: Photochemical water splitting (PWS) is one of the major process in carbon free energy applications. Beside of its chemical challenges, and also its experimental performance is challenging due to used semiconductor materials, sensor systems and hard adjustment of the operation conditions. Thus, it aimed to design a new mini-reactor (Lab on a Chip perspective) by 3D-printing techniques for experimental performance of PWS process and to test its applicable performance during PWS to avoid its limitations (such as sensor diameters, expense of catalysts for the bigger volumes, providing ambient conditions or etc.).
