I am passionate about healthcare in the African region especially infectious disease control and health care management. The challenges facing Africa (Malawi inclusive) can be addressed if a more sustainable approach was taken in terms of health care financing, human resource for health, access to affordable drugs and care. More investment needs to be made in identifying better ways and methods of diagnosing tropical diseases quickly(if possible bedside methods), user friendly, less sophisticated and easy to maintain. Health financing could be revisited and allow those who can contribute to healthcare do so while government subsidizes certain groups and conditions. This can work if help from outside Africa recognises that Africa needs to grow and therefore needs to be supported towards self reliance as opposed to expecting external support even for crucial services that Africans themselves should take up as their responsibility. Healthcare in Africa is improving and will continue to do so with more ownership by Africans themselves.
