She is a true friend, giving, a champion for education and one who is committed to Christ. Because of her experience in education, with sexual abuse and lifelong medical challenges, she has chosen to share her message of be being an over comer and survivor with her “Dare To Be Free” Movement. Her messages focuses varied topics to include, education being the key to success; emphasizes that because one may have been victimized; he/she does not have to remain a victim, having a disability does not equate to being handicapped, to name a few. In addition to being an educator, Janice is a speaker who desires to provide encouragement and motivation to individuals who may have lost hope or direction. It has been Janice’s life’s mission to be the difference that makes a difference in the lives of others.

Managed, directed, and evaluated the College’s retention program, including management of the College Early Alert System. Coordinates, and provided confidential one-on-one counseling and advising services for any TCL student on academic probation or suspension. Assisted ADA Coordinator with one-on-one and confidential counseling for students with disabilities. Worked closely with faculty and staff to ensure proper training regarding the College Early Alert System. Facilitated Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) professional development opportunities for staff and faculty. Advised students who were placed at Developmental Education or Fresh Start levels. Advised students who were requesting permission for the fourth attempt in any course. Worked closely with the financial aid department regarding SAP (Student Academic Progress) process related to academic probation, ensuring that proper documentation was maintained.

Provided one-on-one, and small group, enrollment counseling for all new students, and provided guidance to ensure maximum ease as they transition to registered student status. Coordinated additional counselor assistance with entry and enrollment services during peak registration periods, and made appropriate referrals to counselors or faculty. Directed information sessions for applicants and prospective students on all aspects of the College’s entrance requirements, academic program offerings, and available services. Communicated with the Vice President for Student Affairs regarding enhancements needed to improve services for all students at the New River Campus. Provided management and oversight of the day-to-day activities in the Student Services unit to ensure that adequate personnel coverage and other necessary resources were in place to serve students effectively. Collaborated regularly with the Directors of Admissions, Financial Aid and the Registrar to ensure that services were provided in an accurate and service-oriented manner that is consistent with services offered at the main campus. Regularly examined Student Services processes and made recommendations for improvement to the Vice President for Student Affairs. Submitted various reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs in a timely manner. Responded immediately and decisively to all customer inquiries and complaints about the Student Services unit and made referrals as necessary and appropriate to fully resolve all matters. Worked collaboratively with the Director of Campus Life and other program managers to develop strategies and implement interventions that will result in measurable increases in New River student participation in College-sponsored programs and events. Provided one-on-one counseling and liaison support for any student with disability services needs. Assisted the Vice President for Student Affairs as needed with New River student disciplinary and grievance matters.
