Joe Christopher is a freelance consultant on governance and internal audit since November 15 2019. Prior to embarking on this role, he was a Senior Lecturer and WIL Coordinator with the School of Accounting, RMIT University, Australia for 4 years and a Senior Lecturer with the School of Accounting, Curtin University for 10 years. His 14 years of academic experience was preceded by over 25 years of industry experience in the profession, public and corporate sector. These included various positions in the accounting profession, corporate and public university sector in the United Kingdom, Malaysia and Australia. The roles in the UK were as a senior external auditor with a medium size accounting practice. The roles in Malaysia were as an senior external auditor with a big four accounting practice; and an Accountant, Business Development Executive and Senior Operational Auditor for a large conglomerate in Malaysia. The role in Australia was with the Office of the University Secretary (Curtin University) as a Senior Financial and Operational Auditor of the Internal Audit Department. During these years he was also the Acting Director of Internal Audit for various intermittent periods. His academic qualifications include an honors degree in Accounting from UK, and both a Masters in Corporate Administration and a PhD from Curtin University, Australia. His professional qualifications include fellowship memberships of the Certified Practicing Accountants (FCPA), Chartered Institute of Company Secretaries and Administrators (FCIS), Governance Institute of Australia (FGIA), and Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (FCMA). Externally, Joe served as a member of the Education Committee and Chair of the Candidate Conduct and Appeals sub-committee of the Institute of Internal Auditors, Australia from 2011 to March 2018. Joe has a strong interest in research and has published numerous research papers on governance and internal audit in quality journals (ABDC ranked A and B) since 2009. He has also presented them at conferences locally within Australia and internationally in various overseas locations over those years.
