In this role I provide strategic advice, leadership and support to College of Design & Social Context research executives and academics on the development and implementation of annual research plans and initiatives for improving research culture and performance, cross-college collaboration, development of a pipeline of income and large-scale initiatives, and responding to external opportunities.

In this role, I provided expertise to develop and maintain research partnerships and supported researchers and leaders to establish collaborative research projects with industry, government, not-for-profits, community organisations, among others. The role also supported ongoing reviews of RMIT Research Centres and mapped collaborative partnerships to drive high impact research programs.

In this role, I managed a team supporting leading and emerging researchers with strategic planning, grant and fellowship application development in both the College of Business & Law and College of Design & Social Context. High quality service provision included the identification of funding opportunities; development of research grant and fellowship applications for domestic, international and philanthropic schemes; development of individual and school-based research plans; and continuous improvement of systems and process that support pre-award service provision.

As Senior Coordinator, Research and Industry Development, my role involved supporting leading and emerging researchers from Schools and Research Centres in the College of Design and Social Context to develop local and international research and industry initiatives. The role embodied strategic advice around planning, funding, developing and executing research projects; and professional grant development services to secure projects that make a positive impact on society, the economy, health, the environment, people and places, among others.

I supported academic schools, colleges and research centres by engaging with industry and developing proposals to secure and deliver over $15m of training, research and consultancy projects to an array of clients across many sectors. These include World Vision, Department of Employment (Cwth), Department of Defence (Cwth), European Commission, Department of Health and Human Services (Vic), Department of Premier and Cabinet (Vic), Australian Taxation Office (Cwth), Prince's Charities Australia, Australian Securities and Investments Commission (Cwth), Australian Constructors Association, State Emergency Services (Vic), Fonterra (NZ) and Boeing, among many others.During this role I was seconded to the position of Assistant Director, Industry Business Development Support from November 2015 - September 2016 (see below).

I was seconded from my Senior Advisor role to the position of Assistant Director, Industry Business Development Support during November 2015 - September 2016. In this role, I led a team providing technical and strategic advice across the University and developing industry and government proposals for the delivery of innovative training, consultancy and research solutions. In addition, I developed a number of resources to support efficient and professional bid management processes, including a bid resource manual and numerous planning tools.

From 2004-2018, I operated a freelance communications business, providing print and online copy-writing, editing and professional services for a number of clients across media and communications, sports and recreation, not-for-profits, design and creative agencies, among others. Highlights include over 1,200 articles published in Leader Community Newspapers and over 20 feature articles in national magazines.

Key business development, marketing and communications position in one of RMIT University’s most vibrant and research-active higher education schools. I led the industry engagement function for the development of two new academic qualifications (Bachelor of Pharmacy; Bachelor of Exercise & Sport Sciences); development and execution of a domestic and international marketing plan and budget; preparation of content for grants, proposals, media releases, newsletters, student resources; among others.Through success in this role, I was seconded to the position of Business Development Manager in the College of Science, Engineering & Health (November 2008 - March 2009), where I managed submissions and contract negotiations for research opportunities in the sporting, manufacturing, government, education, pharmaceutical, international education, aerospace and architecture sectors, plus others.

Perkins Resources is a Brisbane-based company serving the scientific community through the provision of human resources consulting. The role involved the planning and execution of business development, marketing and networking activities to ensure growth and market penetration of the new Melbourne office, particularly in the biomedical, biotechnology and tertiary education landscape.

Following the completion of my PhD, I worked in a leading laboratory with the goal of developing novel therapeutic agents for inflammatory diseases and cancer. The role included implementing new preclinical in vitro assays; establishment and maintenance of a variety of cell lines and primary cell cultures from human origin; provision of technical training to staff and mentoring to Honours and PhD students; preparation of scientific manuscripts; and presentations to an array of audiences.

Throughout my Honours and PhD programs, and while working as a Postdoctoral Scientist, I undertook regular teaching positions for various Science, Dentistry, Optometry and Medicine classes. This included the highly sought-after and respected teaching role of Problem-Based Learning Instructor for Medicine students – facilitating small group clinical problem solving.
