Using 40 years’ knowledge, experience and expertise in motivation & engagement, learning & unlearning, being valued, leadership development, managing change & organisational development, knowledge management & knowledge sharing, human resource development & talent management and organisational justice, I am developing new research in an area that has become a deep passion for me: working towards inclusivity of the gay community in the Christian Church, particularly for those who identify as Christians and want to play a full part in the Church. This means enabling, to the fullest extent, the involvement of their natural and God given gifts and talents, including leadership. This involves supporting and enabling gay Christians but the biggest part will be looking at how to enable and encourage non-affirming Christians (eg those who view gay as a sinful lifestyle) to seek, understand, learn, unlearn, and re-visit thinking and conceptions of being gay in terms of their place and role in the Christian church. Knowledge management, knowledge sharing and managing change are all key to this work. It relates to people development and talent development in the Church and the growth and the sustainability of the Church. It relates to organisational development of the church. It considers historical bible translation and interpretation, the basis of much discrimination, and the message of the church. It highlights organisational injustice in its three strands of distributive injustice, procedural injustice and interactional injustice and micro-aggression. Of course, it also links to inclusion in wider society.

It looked at how useful the notion of left brain right brain is in learning and development and considered whether writing with the non-preferred hand could allow participants to access aspects of thinking they would normally note as their strength. The result was that it is helpful to talk about different types of thinking but not left brain/right brain as people do not have separated brains but one whole brain and therefore it is not in fact possible to separate out any higher level thinking skills. The only thinking skills that can be attributed to one side or the other are verbal repetition (left side) and recall of new faces (right side). Of course, motor skills are very strongly divided but this is completely different. The study warns against using the types of questionnaires that are banded about which put people into boxes as to what they can or cannot have as a thinking strength. The way forward is to understand the many different types (about 25 of them) and how understanding them can help communication, teamwork, problem solving and decision making. Show less -
