I have worked in research, lecturing and service delivery for over 25 years in the area of forced migration with a primary focus on how asylum is experienced by women/girls and and participatory visual research methods with women and young people.I was the Lead in Migration, Displacement and Resettlement Research and Senior Research Fellow (Children and Families, Asylum and Migration) in the Just Futures Research Centre for 9 years (2015-2024) at the University of Huddersfield.My expertise has also developed through working/volunteering in the refugee charity sector for more than 25 years, as a practitioner manager for 22 years (2001-2023) with women seeking asylum, refugees and new migrants and as the lead for women-centred work with women migrants for 6 years (2017-2023) at WomenCentre.I hold an esteemed role as Senior Research Fellow at the University of Leeds and I have been nominated as an honorary Associate Professor at the University of Salford.I use a range of empirical approaches in my research and practice which are underpinned by trustworthy and reciprocal relationships, including feminist narrative methodologies and participatory visual research methods. Alongside an ethos of social justice and human rights, an ethic of care runs throughout my work and I am committed to change-orientated research, contesting the inequalities and injustices that coincide with immigration policies and practices.
