About Dr. Laura Moore
“When the public’s right to know is threatened, and when the rights of free speech and free press are at risk, all of the other liberties we hold dear are endangered.” I have 14 years of experience supporting media freedom around the world. Currently, I work as Head of Research and Evaluation at DW Akademie, Germany’s leading institution for international media development. My focus is on media viability, advocacy, media resilience, and safety of journalists. In my book "Measuring Global Media Freedom" I analyze the existing press freedom rankings and suggest an improved instrument for assessing media freedom around the world. I have been a consultant for UNESCO and project coordinator at the International Media Center in Hamburg. Before I started focusing on media development, I worked as a journalist for several German media outlets such as Spiegel and dpa, and was a newspaper and radio reporter in Mexico.
