PhD Researcher in the field of Public Health. I worked as part of a multidisciplinary team comprising of Consultants in Health Protection, Health Protection Nurses and Surveillance Officers to provide the operational response to the prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic. Functions included the provision of appropriate public health advice to complex incidents/ outbreaks and provision of evidence based advice to patients, communities, healthcare teams and other professionals.

Northern Ireland

RIAMS (Regulatory Information and Management Systems) is a specialist company delivering knowledge management and information services to the Public Protection and compliance sectors in government and in private industry. My role was to develop, maintain and deliver online content for Northern Ireland, to include content production such as policy and guidance, as well as editorial overview of the Northern Ireland RIAMS system. I was responsible for the quality and accuracy of online content, as well as leading a team of authors and identifying new specialist authors in NI for the maintenance and development of the online services.

RIAMS (Regulatory Information and Management System) delivers regulatory procedures including documents, notices and publications for Environmental Health, Licensing and Trading Standards. My role consisted of developing procedures for Northern Ireland related to core topic areas i.e. environmental protection, public health, food safety, H&S and housing. This included drafting and mapping related policy and guidance.

Newtownabbey

My placement at Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council involved shadowing Environmental Health Officers to gain experience in each of the core functions of Environmental Health. My role involved:• Ensuring business compliance using legislative powers • Leading Council initiatives in relation to E. Coli and hygiene requirements• Health & safety, food standards and food hygiene inspections• Liaising with local businesses on emerging food registration policy • Investigating complaints while maintaining and updating complex databases• Inspecting residential premises to improve public health• Monitoring of land, air and water pollution

In my role I liaised with the Energy Officer and Sustainability Manager & duties included:• Develop & implement the University’s Carbon Management Programme.• Consumption & cost profiles, energy surveys & audits, environmental audits, inspections, surveys & assessments to ensure compliance with environmental legislation. Inc. review of aM&T and BMS data.• Develop, implement & manage environmental & sustainability strategies to ensure regulatory & legal compliance.• Produce, implement & disseminate environmental improvement projects to support the University’s Environmental Sustainability campaigns.• Design, introduce & maintain structured formal environmental & energy awareness & training programmes to improve environmental sustainability awareness & environmental performance.• Monitor & manage sustainability practices including Environmental Champions Network and Liftshare, & establishing Green Impact Scheme. Ensure initiatives are aligned with the University Environmental Sustainability Steering Group.• Communicate environmental performance & raise awareness of the University’s impact to staff, students & key stakeholders.• Keep up to date with changing statutory requirements & good practice in environment performance & ensure compliance with all statutory responsibilities.• Involvement in the approval/permitting/inspection of processes that are ‘listed activities’/prescribed processes which are subject to special control.• Development of EMS that lead to improved performance outcomes.• Monthly & annual energy reports developed from data collecting, collating, analysing & interpreting.
