I have experience working both in academia and the biotech industry. I earned a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the National University of Mexico in 2000. Then, I made a postdoctoral training at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, from 2000 to 2002. Afterwards, I worked as an Associate Scientist at the Serono Pharmacological Research Institute (today Merck Serono) in Geneva, from 2002 to 2006. Finally, in 2006 I returned to the National University of Mexico to work as a researcher in the Institute for Biomedical Research, where I created the CompBioLab (Computational Biology Laboratory), which I still lead. In my group, as well as in collaborations, I have developed models of regulatory networks to describe different biological processes, such as flower development in Arabidopsis thaliana, cell lineage determination in T, B and NK cells, lymphocyte activation, vulval development in Caenorhabditis elegans, DNA repair in the Fanconi Anemia pathway in humans, gonadal sex determination, angiogenesis, among others. I also created a mathematical methodology for the study of regulatory networks, known as the Standardized Qualitative Dynamical Systems methodology. My work has resulted in the publication of 46 research papers in international peer-reviewed journals. I have also published 15 books and chapters on several aspects from basic scientific topics to specific modeling methods. Also, I am an Associate Editor in the journal Frontiers in Systems Biology. In the period 2019-2023 I was the Secretary for Teaching at the Institute for Biomedical Research. I have graduated three PhD and three MSc students.
