About Mark Thorpe

Through excellence in team development and team leadership, I facilitate innovative change for mutual benefit in the extractive industries (30+yrs, 40+ countries). As a Board Chair, I optimize Board functioning for optimal management guidance and oversight. Thought leader for ESG and CSR.I grew up in a small coal mining town in England, my Grandpa was an electrical engineer at the local coal mine and my father, uncles, friends all worked in the coal or other mining in the area. There was a burning spoil heap at the mine when I was growing up - just nasty, so it was a natural fit for me to start in mining in the environmental field working to better the overall performance - and I have made a difference worldwide. I build and lead teams in solving complex problems by implementing innovative approaches to the mutual benefit of the parties involved (in Spanish or English). By developing a comprehensive stakeholder understanding (internal and external), I am able to identify and address concerns while maintaining project timelines. My extensive international and expatriate experience working in over 30 countries and living on 5 continents allows me to excel in solving problems in all the other things that no-one wants to do for extractive projects.Specialties:Team building and developmentCorporate external affairsProject evaluations and managementOversight of general operations with stakeholder engagement componentCorporate responsibilityEnvironmental and community managementCommunity consultationResettlementHealth and SafetyHuman rights, anti corruptionInnovationGovernanceStrategy development and implementationSustainabilityRisk managementRisk assessmentFinanceProject Planningemail: mbthorpe@hotmail.com
