Michelle is a Health Psychologist based in the Public Health Service at Hertfordshire County Council and holds a Professional Doctorate in Health Psychology from the University of the West of England. She is currently the Head of the Behaviour Change Unit at Hertfordshire County Council leading on a range of projects embedding behavioural science approaches across the organisation. Her role involves taking a strategic approach both locally and nationally supporting the development of the behavioural science agenda. She is also the Chair of the Behavioural Science and Public Health Network (BSPHN) and is one of the lead authors of the PHE strategy “Improving People’s Health: Applying behavioural and social sciences to improve population health and wellbeing in England” (2018). Her role within the BSPHN includes leading the on the development of communities of practice across England to support regions to build behavioural science skills and capacity within local government and partner organisations.

Researching and developing psychosocial interventions to increase self-management in long term conditions. Conducting a systematic review in coping and resilience in commoin long term conditions. Founder member and Secretary of the Health Psychology in Public Health Network running a variety of CPD events to increase knowledge and share best practice between the fields of health psychology and public health. PsyPAG committee member for the Division of Health Psychology 2014-2016. Working with Public Health and partner organisation to integrate behavioural science into current pathways and developing/commissioning innovative solutions to improve health outcomes across the population of Hertfordshire.

Working with and managing a team of Stop Smoking Specialists and advisors across the county to support over 300 providers of level 2 stop smoking services. Clinical lead with a caseload of smokers and responsible for over 100 hours of core clinic provision ensuring quality and equity of services acorss the county. Developing new referal pathways to reduce health inequalities and extend the reach of services for hard to reach groups such as pregnant women, young people, routine and manual workers and BME groups through partnership working. Managing the development and delivery of training programmes for a wide range of audiences including, GPs, Community Pharmacy and local authority staff and third sector.
