Responsibilities included working in collaboration with Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) Thailand on ‘Optimising decentralized low-cost wastewater infrastructure by managing microbes’. This aimed to enhance the design, reliability and ultimately the marketability of the sanitation systems designed jointly by University of Glasgow and AIT- Solar Septic Tanks to provide better sanitation facilities for the rural community. In order to fully automate the sanitation systems, the characterization of mixed microbial communities in engineered biological systems is necessary. I have worked on the development of a robotic platform to demonstrate algorithmic optimization of microbial growth conditions as a rational alternative to empiric trials.

Responsibilities included considering data fusion and visualisation through two exciting projects. The first project, Mosaicing for Automated Pipe Scanning (MAPS), is a collaborative project with the National Nuclear Laboratory, Sellafield Ltd., Wideblue and Inspectahire Ltd. The MAPS consortium is developing a new tool that will create a 3D textured model of the internal structure of pipework for the nuclear industry. The second project, in collaboration with PPS UK, is developing algorithms and software for the 3D visualisation of distributed pressure sensor data for medical and ergonomic applications.

Various projects handled:1. Developed new MMI screens for entry, furnace and exit sections of CAPL, which display all line proximity switches and photocells status and level 1 input number. Developed and implemented automatic diagnostics that consider device status with regards to the other devices in the area and plant status feedback to highlight any potential faults via the MMI screen.2. Installed and developed a control system within the existing level 1 Alspa PLC that would provide automatic recognition of water ingress in the secondary cooling and overage furnace areas based on dew point analyser feedback.3. Developed software to enable control of belt wrapper and deflector table positions on recoiler 1 and 2 via proportional control valves on GEM80 PLC.4. Did a full survey of all steering units, both inductive and camera type, on CAPL to ensure that operation and calibration is within manufacturers specifications. Developed preventive maintenance regimes for all steering units on CAPL and create safe working procedures in the SWP database.5. Contributed to the upgrade of the Fix32 mimics with newly developed screens using iFix 5.0 SCADA system based on Tata Steel standards.6. Developed and upgraded Ferranti mimics with new SCADA screens using iFix 5.0 interface, as part of the Ferranti removal project. 7. Successfully migrated the S6000 to Eurotherm T103 controller for Turbo alternator 9.8. Developed an effective and efficient alarm handling system based on EEMUA 191 standards in the BOS plant to ensure safer and more cost-efficient industrial operations.
