The steel frame was designed to operate within deflection/service limit requirements for crane operation loading. The pre-cast concrete was designed to achieve BCA fire boundary requirements.Hughes Plaza redevelopment, University of Adelaide: Senior Engineer:- Design of a new learning hub facility, and upgrade of the existing plaza structure. The frame was fabricated from tubular steelwork incorporating a lightweight ETFE roof system, which was fully rigid to act as a diaphragm. The frame was designed with an earthquake boundary zone to ensure that the steel structure did not damage the adjoining existing structure. The existing reinforced concrete structure had to be assessed for the new additional loads with respect to earthquake and vertical loading. Adelaide Desalination Plant:- designed concrete structures including some of the main processing facilities and storage tanks. Produced the concrete supply and concrete corrosion/protective coating specifications for the concrete elements of the project. These were developed for the special marine environment, the high chloride content in effluent brine solution, and an increased concrete life of 100 years. Assessed the main liquid process (DAF) plant structure for earthquake loading incorporating the adoption of the New Zealand earthquake standard for the movement of fluids during an earthquake event. Responsible for coordinating design and detailing for the pre-cast concrete wall frame and hollow core components with the main contractor, PIHL Ltd. Development of connections, tying, reinforcing of the wall and floor components. He designed units for lifting and transporting, and conducted site and factory inspections of manufactured panels.Gatwick Hotel: Pre-cast cross wall hotel, five-storey high for British Airports Authority (BAA) at Gatwick Airport. Dr Mills was responsible for the design and detailing within the design office to deliver the project on time and budget. His role included responsibility for elements of manufacture and erection of the structure, in particular temporary support engineering. He undertook extensive coordination role with the main contractor, and conducted site and factory inspections to ensure that manufacture and erection was per the design specification. Show less
