Breakwater Institute for Occupational Stress and Trauma is a private practice specializing in assessing and treating first responders and currently serving and former members of the Canadian Armed Forces. At Breakwater, we provide psychological assessment, psychotherapy, and consultation services to First Responders (police officers, paramedics, firefighters, dispatchers, correctional officers, and trauma nurses) and members/veterans of the Canadian Forces who experience operational stress injuries. This work includes consultation with first responder services to provide peer support team training and crisis intervention.A few highlights of my work at Breakwater include:• Facilitating peer support training in collaboration with Wounded Warriors Canada – This program helps first responders improve their ability to recognize and respond to signs of stress and trauma and manage the crucial transition between "home mode" and "responder mode."• Delivering virtual training for Wayfound's Before Operational Stress program (BOS) – BOS is a resiliency-based program that empowers public safety employees to take charge of their mental health. The program uniquely combines theoretical and experiential learning procedures to mitigate the effects of operational stress.

I provided clinical supervision to clinical psychology graduate students at the University of Waterloo's Centre for Mental Health Research and Treatment. I supported students in working on therapy cases and coached them on successes and areas of improvement.

I provided psychological assessment and psychotherapy to individuals across the lifespan presenting with a range of psychological difficulties. I specialized in treatment in the following areas: trauma/PTSD, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and mood disorders with a range of populations.

In collaboration with the UW Centre for Mental Health Research, I led the clinicalsupervision of a practicum for senior clinical psychology graduate students providing mental health services to the local refugee population. The services provided included psychological assessment for various mental health conditions, including PTSD, mood and anxiety disorders, and functional capacity to connect patients with appropriate community and financial supports.
