Child and adolescent health and well-being is the focus of my work. Central to my professional philosophy is the concept of the quadruple aim which includes four dimensions: improving patient outcome, enhancing population health, reducing cost, and ensuring the well-being of healthcare providers. As the head of Paediatrics and Paediatric Infectious Diseases at the Children's Hospital of Central Switzerland (KidZ), my aim is to ensure a thriving and innovative workplace for all employees to enhance the provision of excellent care to our children and adolescents. I view and foster research as an integral part of medical care aimed at improving the quality of diagnostics and treatment. Good clinical care comes with and from good science. This synergy can be attained through the use and analysis of routine data generated within our hospital. This valuable information is translated into applicable knowledge at the Center of Child Health Analytics (CCHA) in Lucerne. Furthermore, I lead the mycobacterial and migrant health research group at the University Children's Hospital (UKBB) and at the Department of Clinical Research (DKF) at the University of Basel. Here we investigate novel biomarkers and diagnostic tools to improve diagnosis of childhood TB, COVID-19 and other infections in children.
