I am an expert adult educator, accomplished visual artist, experienced business manager, and graphic designer with a continued interest in fields related to learning and development. In this next chapter of my life I am focused on using my creativity and my newly learned graphic design and web design skills to develop meaningful learning and development media, programs and curriculum. My life’s work and passion has been focused on making a positive difference in the lives of others by providing equitable access to needed resources, knowledge and opportunities. Founded and incorprated by Rene Amaro in 1998, Sankofa hit its peak growth in 2001 when it was awarded a major contract with the Franklin County Juvenile Court to provide mentoring and advocacy services for adjudicated youth. In 2001 Parrish Monk took over as Executive Director and also created the Sankofa Youth to Youth Entertinment Project as a individually operating business entity. The Sankofa Youth to Youth Entertainment Project (Y2Y) was another youth serving organization granted funds from the Linda M. Dunbar Foundation to utilize the creative arts (music, writing, ceramics, video et cetera) to help keep ids off the streets and out of trouble. Y2Y and the Sankofa Youth Academy officially suspended operations in May 2004 due to state and federal funding shortages for prevention programming.
