As the Principal of Highland High School, I led the school from Academic Watch status (2008) to- making Annual Yearly Progress and P.L. 221 goals (2011) - an “A” grade from the Indiana Department of Education (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014).- Four Star School designation from the Indiana Department of Education (2012, 2013, 2014)-2015 "Best High School" National Ranking by US News and World Report-2015 and 2016 "High Schools That Challenge Their Students" by The Washington Post The high school staff implemented a three year plan of professional development focused on curriculum alignment, assessment design/ implementation, and data analysis to adjust instruction and improve student learning outcomes. The school launched the Pathfinder Academy, a highly successful 7-12 alternative education program for Highland and Lake Central students. Overall, the high school has logged improvement in every bench marked category over the past three years. Most notably, in 2013, our graduation rate was 95.3%, the highest in school history. In April, 2014 I was recognized by the leadership of District 1 of the Indiana Association of School Principals as its High School Principal of the Year.

As the Principal of East Chicago Central High School, I worked to bring about constructive and immediate changes in school climate, discipline, and academic achievement.

As the Principal of Valparaiso High School, a National Model High School and U.S. News and World Report Silver Award High School (2007), I was responsible for the complete operation of the high school program, including:• Administration of the school’s instructional program• School performance, accreditation and improvement• Professional development• Building maintenance, safety and security• Management of 1 million dollar annual budget• Staff recruitment and evaluation• School and community relationsAs the Principal of Valparaiso High School, I:• Worked cooperatively with national researcher Dr. Robert Marzano and the school district administration to implement a standards-based curriculum, assessment, and reporting model for core area subjects at the high school. • Led professional development initiatives to develop teacher capacity in implementing cross-curricular reading strategies.• Implemented school safety and security strategies as recommended by a 2004 school safety audit.• Led revision of the school mission, vision and commitment statements.• Led a high performing school, recognized as a National Model School in 2004 and a U.S. News and World Report Silver Award winner, in performance improvement across the range of key benchmarks.• Supported the continued expansion of the school’s International Baccalaureate diploma and certificate program.• Represented the school and district as a panelist at the October 10, 2006 White House Conference on School Safety http://www.whitehouse.gov/infocus/education/schoolsafety/edupanel2.wm.v.html• Was selected as the Indiana Association of School Principal’s District 1 High School Principal of the Year.• Served as Duneland Athletic Conference president in 2006-2007 and led a conference sportsmanship initiative.

As the Principal of Elkhart Memorial High School, I:• Implemented an ongoing program of job-embedded, data-driven professional development program designed to support reading in the content areas• Led improvement in ISTEP test results • Hired thirty-three new certified staff in 2 years and led creation of a new teacher academy to support new teachers• Established a principal’s parent advisory committee• Led a restructuring of the high school administrative team• Restructured the school’s student assistance team model• Created a PLATO-based program of student remediation• Introduced data-driven decision making based on NWEA and ISTEP testing data• Upgraded the school’s technology lab• Participated in teacher recruitment for the district• Led the school through the North Central Association accreditation process in my first two years as principal• Served on the Superintendent’s Advisory Council, district data advisory council, and administrative professional development planning council
