Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine and Lung TransplantationI specialise in caring for children with rare, complex, and severe lung diseases, including children with multi-system disorders, and children who require lung transplantation. Nearly all my work is at tertiary or quaternary level: i.e. I provide second or third opinions for other paediatric specialists. I am academic lead for our department (research and education).My tertiary NHS work covers North, East, & West London, plus the adjacent Home Counties. At quaternary level I provide advice to colleagues across the UK.I also have a large international practice, providing the same service to children across the world. This is almost entirely sponsored by overseas governments.I prefer to see UK residents in my NHS clinic rather than privately. If for some reason you cannot obtain an NHS referral please contact my PA and we will try to find a solution. All of my practice is at GOSH. My main areas of research have been measuring life expectancy in CF, and the effect/quantification of transplantation upon this; techniques for measuring lung function in preschool children; developing physiological and imaging methods for quantifying ventilation distribution; & other applications of mathematical/statistical techniques to clinical questions. In 2002 I won the European Respiratory Society Award for Paediatric Research (only the 2nd UK researcher to win this award).I am education lead for our department, and supervise both Core & International Fellowship Programmes, plus our Visitors Programme. Since 2000 I have run Lung in Childhood, which is the main teaching programme for the subspeciality for southern England. I frequently lecture at national and international meetings, mostly upon rare and complex lung diseases, or the above research areas.
