A passionate educator and student advocate, Paul Wolff is dedicated to improving the learning experience of students at UNC Chapel Hill. Dr. Wolff is currently the Instructional Design Manager at the Carolina Office for Online Learning at UNC Chapel Hill where he and his team work directly with faculty to build engaging online courses. Paul earned a Master of Arts in Teaching in 2003 and a Master of Science in Information Science in 2010, both from UNC Chapel Hill. More recently, Paul received his Doctorate of Education with a focus in Educational Technology from the University of Florida in 2017. During his studies, Dr. Wolff developed the Self-Determined Gamification Framework, a framework for designing gamified systems. Using this framework, he oversaw the development of a gamified work environment utilizing digital achievements within an online web portal and has consulted on the development of other gamified systems. Paul’s research interests include gamification, badging, self-determined motivation, performance improvement, learning management systems, online social networks, augmented reality and mobile device use.
