Organising CommitteeSimtect 2012 Oct 2010 - Jun 2012Adelaide 18-21 June 2012Member of Organising Committee for SimTecT 2011 and 2012.Chairman of Workshop "Increasing Operational Effectiveness through Live-Virtual-Constructive (LVC) Simulation" This course provided an overview of the benefits and uses of Live-Virtual-Constructive (LVC) simulation for increasing operational effectiveness. The use of a mixture of live, virtual, and constructive simulation is becoming accepted practice for training within Defence. The LVC categories are defined as follows: • Live – Modelling and Simulation (M&S) involving real people operating real systems, e.g. a pilot flying a jet, or a Naval Command Team in a warship.• Virtual - M&S involving real people operating simulated systems. Virtual simulations inject a Human-in-the-Loop into a central role by exercising motor control skills (e.g., flying a simulated jet), decision making skills (e.g., committing fire control resources to action), or communication skills (e.g., as members of a C4I team).• Constructive - M&S involving simulated people operating simulated systems. Real people stimulate (provide inputs) to such simulations, but are not involved in determining the outcomes. Simulated entities such as warships, aircraft, etc are computer generated. A key issue is getting the right mix of live, virtual, and constructive simulation in order to achieve cost-effective training, leading to increased operational effectiveness. http://www.simtect.com.au/courses/course-5
