I am a Research Associate in the Children's Social Care Research and Development Centre (CASCADE) in the School of Social Sciences (SOCSI), Cardiff University. I am currently working on a mixed-method Health and Care Research Wales (HCRW) fellowship, exploring the post-16 transitions of care experienced young people who have been excluded from school. I specialise in using a range of qualitative research methods with children and young people, including ethnographic, creative, participatory and co-produced approaches. I am also a qualified youth and community worker and facilitated a youth-led community radio station for five years. My research explores the educational lives and experiences of young people and I also have an interest in the practices of professionals and services which support young people and their families. Previous projects related to these themes that I have worked on in CASCADE include the Child Welfare Inequalities Project, the Social Workers In Schools Trial, and the Looked After Children in Education Project. I have experience of supervising MA and PhD students, sit on an advisory panel for End Youth Homelessness Cymru (EYHC) and co-convene the Childhood & Youth Research Group within SOCSI.

The research explored the perceptions of staff within a Welsh PRU in relation to their occupational practices. The study also provided an opportunity for young people to talk about their educational experiences, through a participatory research methods framework. In addition to the PhD, I help to run the Childhood & Youth Research Group in the School of Social Sciences and supported the CASCADE research project which looked at the educational experiences of young people in the care system (The LACE Project).

Programme Controller99.8Fm Kcc Live May 2008 - Jul 2013I managed a youth led community radio station called KCC Live, which provides an informal learning environment for young people in Knowsley. Volunteers were able to gain skills in radio production, presenting and the day to day management of a radio station which reached over 100,000 listeners.
