I joined the Anaesthetic and Critical Care Departments at St Michael’s Hospital in September 2004. My medical and research interests focussed on cardiovascular anaesthesia, critical care and perioperative echocardiography. I graduated in 1994 from the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, UK. I became a specialist in Anesthesia in 2004.I spent nearly five years as the Medical Director of the Cardiovascular ICU and Director of Cardiac Anaesthesia. While in post I introduced procedures to standardize care for patients undergoing major cardiac and vascular surgery and led an initiative to improve the flow of cardiac surgery patient through the hospital. I helped set up and lead a Corporate Patient Flow Initiative for which the team won two awards in three years. In 2011/12 I had a wonderful opportunity to work at the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care in the Health Quality Branch.From July 2012 to February 2016 I was the Chief of Anesthesia at North York General Hospital and led initiatives to implement an Anaesthesia Information Management system (electronic record).
