Dr Richard Simpson is a Director of ELTC at University of Sheffield (retired) at University of Sheffield. Colleagues describe him as "Richard interviewed me when I first worked for Sheffield University in 2002. He made a good impression on me then, and that impression continued and grew throughout the time I worked for the English Language Teaching Centre. He is an extremely pleasant, courteous, and considerate colleague; affable and genuine - and this was reflected in his relationships with other staff and with the students, who I got the impression were extremely happy and satisfied.. Summer school was always a pleasure to work on as a result. Teaching and other staff were treated well, we had appropriate facilities and resources, indeed the Arts tower in Sheffield where I first worked was a phenomenal place to work in - and I have very happy memories. In addition, the actual planning of the course meant that students had a full, interactive experience of university life, and as well as their core subjects and teachers, got to interact with other students and teachers by means of a far sighted approach to curriculum planning and a great atmosphere borne out by the fact that the Friday evening social events at that time were regularly attended by just about all the teachers, despite the fact that this was a social unpaid event."
