I founded Explora BioLabs in 2004 to help San Diego biotech companies with their critical preclinical research facility needs. Started in a modest 1500 sq ft of lab space and without outside investors, we grew organically to 4 facilities in San Diego, 3 facilities in San Francisco by 2017. In 2018, Seabright Fund, led by Sandy Paige, acquired majority.

LaunchBio is a nonprofit organization that identifies, counsels, and supports high-growth, high-impact life science and biotechnology companies. Its mission is to build an ecosystem of innovation for the benefit of human health and well-being.

Ansata was a small startup biotech in La Jolla that focused on taking advantage of the unique properties of cell penetrating peptides (CPP) to target diseases such as cancer. I was brought on board to run its pharmacology research program. Despite some unexpected challenges, we took a novel molecule in a new direction and eventually moved it into Phase I.

At Genset, a French genomics company, I changed my research direction from cancer to diabetes. In a short period of time, I dived deep into diabetes research, participated in major due diligence meetings with companies including Genzyme and Pharmacia, and participated in international research review meeting in Paris. Due to its successful genomic target.

My job at Corvas was to expand their cancer therapeutics portfolio, taking advantage of their serine protease targeting expertise. I started several new cancer and angiogenesis models at Corvas, and tested several candidates using these models.

US

Axys was the result of a merger between Sequana and Arris. At Axys, we combined Sequana's genetics-based target discovery platform with Arris' chemistry expertise to form a powerful drug discovery company. In 1999, the company consolidated all of its operation to South San Francisco, and was eventually acquired by Celera Genomics.

Sequana was the first large scale gene-hunting biotech company in San Diego. I joined the company to develop high throughput gene targeting technology in order to do large scale target validation in vivo. The ambitious project was halfway off the ground before Sequana merged with Arris and morphed into Axys.
