Receiving continuous funding from the NIH for more than two decades, he has pursued research on glaucoma and the epidemiology of eye disease, publishing more than 300 peer-reviewed journal articles and writing and editing three books. Dr. Varma has served as a principal investigator for the African American Eye Disease Study, Los Angeles Latino Eye Study, Chinese American Eye Study and Multi-Ethnic Pediatric Eye Diseases Study.
