At Solar Power Australia and its sister company ELMOFO (Electro Motive Force) I lead the research and development of new clean energy products that range from battery energy storage systems through to high performance electric motorcycle conversions.My background is equally rich and varied. I have 20+ years experience researching and teaching Architecture, Computational Design, and Advanced Fabrication at universities around the world. At seemingly the other end of the spectrum, I’m a licensed pressure welder specialising in TIG welding aluminium and hold three Australian land speed records on motorcycles I designed and fabricated. My PhD used these motorcycles and customised EEG headsets to investigate the concept of presence.My virtual reality construction-safety applications have reached well over 100,000 workers. Independent research has shown a reduction in training time by up to 25%, increased engagement and performance. My classroom, site based, and mobile, VR solutions are in use in companies across southeast Asia, Australia, the UK and Europe. In emergency response I've created mixed reality systems so that coordinators can visualise and experiment with pedestrian movement. In product design I've used motion capture to give designers rich insights into how aged people use bathrooms and toilets. I’ve held over 3.5 million in research grants and won international awards. I’ve enjoyed working within and leading teams to make these outcomes possible.Finally, engaging and supporting stakeholders has always been a priority, and I believe is key to long lasting success.
