The SLHD MDOK program is dedicated to improving the wellbeing & professional fulfilment of health care workers in Sydney Local Health District. The program is based on the Stanford WellMD centre and around the Stanford Model of Professional Fulfilment. It started life as a program focussed on junior and senior doctors, but is gradually being rolled out to all staff. MDOK -helping our staff be at their best.

Design and implementation of the "Trauma Team Training" course to improve communication, teamwork and clarity around roles and responsibilities in Trauma at RPAH. This was developed in conjunction with the Trauma Nurse Consultant and has now been running 4-6 times per year since 2010 with good success. 2.Design and Implementation of the "Towards Better" project in RPAH ED. This started out as a lean thinking project designed to improve workflow in the Emergency Department. Our working group then realised that we need to change our team culture and improve cohesion to really achieve a lasting change. We worked with a leading HR director to design and implement 4 workshops from which our core values were extracted. We are building on these in our Emergency Department to align a very diverse team, all of whom work shifts in one of the busiest departments in the state. We aim to empower our team to take responsibility for the environment in which we work - both from a physical and a human factors perspective. This project has many arms - from communication strategies, to improving sociability and cohesion, to improving equipment and workflows and training via medical simulation. It is an exciting and ongoing project.3. Disaster Preparedness. Having had experience training the military from 2009 - 2014 with CareFlight, I have taken those learnings, and those from overseas and applied them to our Emergency Department disaster preparations along with my other nursing and medical colleagues. I am a casual educator with HETI for delivery of the HETI ED Masterclass programme in rural and remote NSW. I wrote the content for this programme on the request of the Rural and Remote Portfolio of HETI and continue to deliver the programme 4-6 times per year with the Mobile Simulation Centre. I have also been involved in other simulation based programmes related to the Mobile Simulation Centre.

Provide Pre-Hospital and Retrieval Medicine Training to our registrars in Sydney and Darwin to make them mission ready with an emphasis on excellent teamwork and communication skills. 2. Provide all internal induction and ongoing medical training for all the nurses, doctors and paramedics, working in all CareFlight's operations in NSW, NT and WA. 3. Provide the Pre-Hospital Trauma Course quarterly, CART Course (CareFlight Aeromedical and Retrieval Transport) twice a year and THREAT course 2-4 times per year. 4. Continue to teach the Trauma Care Workshops, provided free of charge for first responders such as SES, NTES, Rural Fire Service etc. This is done through generous corporate funding and is invaluable for ensuring the first person on scene has the skills to potentially save your life. 5. Provided medical training to all the Australian Army Doctors, Nurses, Medics and Combat First Aiders who deployed to Afghanistan between 2009 - 2014.Due to our breadth of experience and ability to adapt training to most environments, we are able to tailor training to whatever the organisation requires. We believe strongly in "train as you fight" and in realistic simulation that hones the critical decision making skills necessary for safety and good patient care in the Pre-Hospital and Retrieval Environment. We use a "crawl, walk, run" approach and all our team members are well trained in simulation delivery and debriefing. Show less
