I joined Alexandria University (AU) in 2001, where I was awarded the Undergraduate Distinction of Honor for four successive years and, in 2005, earned a B.S. degree with distinction and honor, being ranked first among students in the chemistry department and fourth in the university overall. Thanks to these achievements, I was hired as a tenure-track assistant professor in AU’s Chemistry Department in 2005. Then, in 2011, I was offered a scholarship by the University of South Florida (USF) to pursue my Ph.D., where I remained as TA and RA in AU until 2014. I completed my doctorate on the design and synthesis of metal-organic frameworks and their applications to the separation of gases. In 2015, I returned to AU for promotion. I then returned to the USA to do a collaborative research with Dr. Praveen at PNNL, having been awarded two fellowships by the former institution to fund these projects, serving as a visiting assistant professor and research scholar from Sept 2014 to Apr 2015 and again from November 2015 to June 2017. As a result of this collaborative research, I have published over 20 joint papers with researchers at the PNNL and AU as well as others at the University of California-Berkeley, the Colorado School of Mines, the University of Limerick, the University of Milan, the University of Singapore, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Argonne National Laboratory, the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, and IMDEA Materials. In June 2017, I joined the U.S. Department of Energy’s at NETL as a research scientist. My current work involves the design and construction of new composite materials, and the fabrication of novel mixed-matrix membranes. These materials, which feature high surface and fine-tunable structures as well as high processability, have an enormous number of applications, including gas storage, separation, catalysis, conductivity, water purification, the production of clean energy, light harvesting, and electronics.
