As Lecturer in Human Geography, I was responsible for delivering world-leading independent research, and teaching across a range of different modules - including Theory and Concepts in Human Geography, Social Research Methods and Urban Geography

As part of my four-year Junior Research Fellowship at Homerton College, I completed an immersive ethnographic study of unequal lives in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, London - the UK's most unequal place. The research is not simply concerned with measuring the extent of inequalities, but is rather centred on thinking critically about why and how inequalities persist, and how people live in increasingly unequal times and spaces.

In my role as the QMUL Model Lecturer in Human Geography at Queen Mary University of London, I lectured on a broad range of topics, including: 'Geography in the world', 'Ideas and practice in geography and environmental science', 'Reinventing Britain', 'Geographical research in practice' and 'Contemporary London.' I was also the convener for two first year modules: 'Research methods for geographers and environmental scientists' and 'Cities and regions in transition.' My role also included sitting on teaching and learning and exam board committees, and providing support for the pastoral needs of students as an academic adviser.

As Bye-Fellow for Study Skills at Girton College, I was responsible for the provisioning of core skills teaching for graduate and undergraduate students of all disciplines. This was undertaken through lecture, seminar and bespoke supervision engagements, as well as the development of an online study skills portal.

In my role as a Supervisor of Studies, I was responsible for undergraduate supervisions on a range of human geography topics. These included teaching first year students on: historical geography; political geography; cultural geography; sustainable development; unequal geographies; economic globalisation; and urban geography. I also supervised and lectured second and third year students on: austerity and affluence; citizenship, cities and civil society; living with global change; and political appetites.

I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Geography, Cambridge, on the ESRC funded project 'Operationalizing the leave no one behind agenda with principal investigator Professor Sarah Radcliffe. Through a critical understanding of intersecting inequalities, the research interrogated the challenges and opportunities arising from the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. As such, it was a project that wedded together my critical interests in the geographies of inequality with the active ways in which governments, organisations and communities can combat social exclusion and marginality.

In my role as a Special Supervisor, I was responsible for undergraduate supervisions on a range of human geography topics. I also supervise and lecture second and third year students on: austerity and affluence; citizenship, cities and civil society; living with global change; and political appetites.

Thesis title: "The Production of Poverty: Politics, Place and Social Abandonment in Blaenau Gwent, Wales"My PhD research explored the structural processes, geographical inequalities and everyday experiences that mark contemporary poverty in the UK. It constructed a 'people's geography of poverty' through immersive ethnographic fieldwork in order to align our critical understandings of poverty with how those navigating its effects see, shape and make placeDuring my studies, I also undertook over 500 hours of teaching across all parts of the tripos and at 13 different colleges. I lectured on the following courses: ‘Geographical skills and methods’ (for first year students)—on “Ethnographic methods”; and ‘Political Appetites’ (for third year students)—on “Food Banks and the 'New' Discipline of Hunger”; and “The Politics of Obesity and Responsible Eating”I supervised on the following courses: all sub-topics of ‘Human geography: People, place and the geographies of difference’ (for first year students); ‘Austerity and affluence’, ‘Cities, citizenship and civil society’ and ‘Core ideas: Living in the Anthropocene’ (for second year students); and supervised numerous finalists on their dissertation projects
