I am an enthusiastic patent attorney (European and UK) with more than 30 years experience of providing clear and practical advice around all aspects of patents and other Intellectual Property ("IP") rights, but above all really passionate about the technologies my clients bring me.I sit on the Life Sciences Committee of the UK Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA). I have also been an examiner for the CIPA qualification exams and have been generously recognised in most major directories, including achieving top rankings in IAM Patent1000, Chambers, and Who's Who legal and JUVE.My clients include leading Universities, large European and US companies, small start ups, and research institutions. My academic background is a BSc and a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Bristol. I joined Mewburn Ellis in 1997 after working for the UK Ministry of Defence intellectual property rights department from 1992 (the only dedicated IP department in UK Government, where I was exposed to a broad range of IP types and problems). My workload now spans a wide variety of technical fields, including physical biochemistry, therapeutics, diagnostics, genetics, mechanical subject matter and chemistry. I have particular experience in oppositions and appeals at the European Patent Office and have been extensively involved in all aspects of due diligence. If I can help you with any of these things, please do get in contact!
