Worked on physico-chemical characterization of petroleum refinery by-products such as slurry oil, aromatic extract, vacuum residues, deasphalted oils, heavy extract etc. Synthesized petroleum pitches from different petroleum by-products bythermal treatment at different temperatures, varying thermal soaking time, nitrogen gas purge rate. Synthesized petroleum pitches from different petroleum by-products byusing different catalysts and different temperatures. Modification/pre-treatment of aromatic streams by solvent extraction andpetroleum residues by de-asphalting. Preparation of mesophase pitches/coke from modified/pre-treated feedstocks. Worked on mixed catalysts for the development of new process for thepreparation of mesophase pitches. Study the surface morphology of pitches by optical microscopy and alsoestablish a relationship between feed stocks composition and surfacemorphology. Worked on up-gradation of clarified slurry oil of RIL by converting intopetroleum pitches (isotropic and mesophase): Precursors for advancedcarbon materials, carbon wool and its carbon composites derived frompetroleum, wax production from MVGO and HVGO from which technologytransferred to Numaligarh Refinery Limited, MIBK dewaxing/deoilingstudies on PWD & foots oil for Digboi Refinery. Worked on “studies on relationship between feed stocks composition andmesophase/semi-coke formation and their surface morphology” in-houseproject (OLP-122019). Development of petroleum derived environmentally friendly mesophasepitches from low value refinery stream clarified oil for use as a precursor foradvanced carbon materials as part of CSIR-800 coursework project.
