Prof S.G. Borkar, holds the highest available degree in science i.e. doctorate of science (D.Sc) from International University Washington, U.S.A., had experience of working in foreign institute abroad and obtained his post doctorate from world famous plant bacteriological institute at INRA , Beaucouze , France., his Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) from Indian Agriculture research Institute, New Delhi.Prof S.G. Borkar published more than 87 research paper in reputed 12 foreign journals and in 25 Indian journals. His research reprints are demanded by 22 foreign scientists from 15 developed countries including USA and Europe. He has published at least four books in his subject.The inventions made by Prof. S. G. Borkar are patented. He has 6 patent to his credit and 3 more are in pipeline. Wheat varieties developed by Dr. S. G. Borkar occupied 6.25 lakh hector in Maharashtra out of 10.45 lakh hector, with increase in an additional yield of 6q/ha . This additional yield generates Rs. 720 crore /year to the farming communities. He was the zonal coordinator of wheat (peninsular zone) for more than 5 years and thus the leader of Wheat Research Programme of ICAR in peninsular India.He is the first in India to established plant disease museum (in Dhule, 1995) for farmers and citizens and also to make the first documentary film on plant diseases which is recognised at National level . The impact of this documentary film was to save a tomato crop worth Rs. 120 crores from the infection of bacterial blight disease. He developed the protocol for the control of bacterial blight of pomegranate which was recommend by university to save the crop worth Rs. 23,183 million.
