Senior ScientistIcmr-Regional Medical Research Centre, Bhubaneswar Apr 2024 - PresentIndiaOur group focuses on translational research activities aimed at developing cost-effective vaccines, diagnostic kits and protein therapeutics using recombinant protein technology. For this we capitalize on our proficiency in production of recombinant proteins using different protein expression platforms such as prokaryotic (Lactococcus lactis and Escherchia coli), eukaryotic (Pichia pastoris, Kluyveromyces lactis, and Bombyx mori, a higher eukaryote platform for bulk production of glycosylated proteins). Two of the major research programs (funded by BIRAC-NBM, Department of Biotechnology and ICMR) undertaken by our group involves developing novel recombinant chimeric malaria vaccines ( P. falciparum and P. vivax) targeting the pre-erythrocytic development in man and preventing community transmission through blocking the parasite development in the mosquito vector.Other ongoing research interests of our group involve developing novel vaccines and diagnostics kits against Filariasis, Dengue, Japanese Encephalitis Virus, and other infectious agents or non-infectious diseases, as per institutional mandate.
