About Trent Grassian, Mpa, Phd

I am a passionate trainer, campaigner, educator and researcher who has been working in the non-profit and public sectors for 15 years. After starting out as a Special Educational Needs teacher, I have migrated to the non-profit sector, where I am particularly passionate about understanding impact, creating sustained systems change, and helping other organisations do the same. My experience across a wide range of 'sectors' -- ranging from education to LGBTQIA+, homelessness, animal rights, and disability rights, has enabled me to have a unique understanding of the siloed ways so many non-profits are stuck in. I am passionate about uniting organisations across 'sectors' and using my skills in conducting research, developing creative ways to understand impact, and education and facilitation to help the non-profit sector effectively change the broken systems we are all stuck in.And that is why I am thrilled to be working at the Mayday Trust team as their Head of Growth and Impact, an organisation passionate about systems change. As a member of the Senior Leadership team, I line manage our Learning and Impact teams, oversee Mayday's understanding of our impact, and lead on our consultancy work and training offer. My education background includes being a qualified and experienced Special Education Teacher and holding a dual Bachelor's (2:1, Hons) in Anthropology and Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Wesleyan University and an MA in Public Administration (1st) from the University of Exeter. I also hold a PhD in Social Policy. My dissertation, entitled 'A New Way of Eating: Creating Meat Reducers, Vegetarians and Vegans', worked directly with campaigns to evaluate participants' motivators, barriers and dietary goals and changes. The longitudinal, mixed-methods research contained the largest sample of meat reducers and veg*ns in any study to date, work that continues to be used to help charities increase their impact.
