The PSD company was established as an idea to realise my creations, which I was unable to realise under my past employers, and to create work conditions for people who understand open and sincere cooperation. The world evolving round the company is slowly growing, although, we are being pushed about and the financial system in Slovenia, and generally in the world, is experiencing difficulties to recuperate after shocks of 2008. Since 2005, PSD has grown into a modern and high-quality company offering translation services in over 70 languages. The globalisation of the business environment and openness to the world enabled us to expand our services also to foreign markets. We cooperate with over 500 freelancers, who manage high-quality and timely translations. In 2010, PSD became the first Slovenian company to receive the EN 15038 European Quality Standard for Translation Services. After a few years, it is clear why we have chosen this path, since the market is still struggling to define quality.We wish to thank those who are aware of the importance of high-quality services, as they not only support our company but also the people who strive for a better future.

As mentioned many times, quality is something we all strive for, but we are not willing to pay for it more if it is not something tangible or immediately effective. A translation is not a car, into which a person sits and gets the feeling of importance just because the car looks good. Our quality is subtle and noticed at a later time. Quality of translated documents are guaranteed through the processes such as a Revision, Review, Proofreading and Final Checking.

Each task takes its time. I always keep in mind that those who create long-term stories, that is, those who are patient will achieve success. Our association is new but is paving the way like other associations that want to implement changes one step at a time. Some may think it futile, but it is success already when seeing one result after so much effort has been put into it. The victory is always a reward; the victory is a successfully concluded project. Then we can breathe a sigh of relief and say, “We have concluded one round, now we can move on.”The changes of mentality take a lot of energy. Especially because a very small percentage of people cannot affect the majority of population. My colleagues and I have many challenges ahead, and we are proud of our work so far. We became full members in the EUATC and although we are sometimes unaware of it – that was a great step.The SATC members (translation companies and independent entrepreneurs) represent not only a significant share of the translation sector and market in Slovenia, but also almost all major entrepreneurial translation providers.Members of the Slovenian Association of Translation Companies pay special attention and care to increasing the quality of translation and interpreting activities within the domestic business environment for the common interest of translation companies.

Translation of the legal documents, interpretation.As the certified court interpreter, I was translated more than 10,000 pages of various texts, laws, documents and contracts in the areas of legislation and public administration.

It’s the membership committee that helps maintain the classifications to prevent “classification cowboys.” Another duty of the membership committee is evaluating the contributions of members to the chapter. Due to my skills acquired in my previous military job, after almost 250 rejected job applications for employment in my profession (sociology) and my forthcoming move to Slovenia in 2001, I was happy to accept work at Local Security Guard at the American Embassy. The Americans have showed me respect for work with their friendly, very professional and respectful attitude towards the employees. The then Ambassador, Mr Johnny Young, stopped me sometimes and asked me how I was. During our short conversations, he learnt my story and encouraged me that I would eventually find work in my profession. I could not have asked more from an employer at the time and I am still grateful to him for his attention.

Above all, I have to commend the former education system in the Yugoslav Army, which applied two hours of practical training immediately after learning the theoretical part. In the army, I applied and analysed my skills and acquired experience in leadership of small groups of people, particularly of young enthusiasts who mostly thought about leisurely passing their time. They got the job and they were happy. At the time, I discovered that people happiness even if unpaid is much better than no work at all. These people were asked to serve their country for nine months by which they performed voluntary work, which was great if they wanted to be productive. Technical skills and knowledge defined by scientific laws additionally enhanced my logical thinking and learning about functioning of different systems. I was enabled to do that by people who unselfishly shared their understanding, taught and sincerely directed me with their good advice. I am grateful to them for all my knowledge on leadership.
