Due to my skills acquired in my previous military job, after almost 250 rejected job applications for employment in my profession (sociology) and my forthcoming move to Slovenia in 2001, I was happy to accept work at Local Security Guard at the American Embassy. The Americans have showed me respect for work with their friendly, very professional and respectful attitude towards the employees. The then Ambassador, Mr Johnny Young, stopped me sometimes and asked me how I was. During our short conversations, he learnt my story and encouraged me that I would eventually find work in my profession. I could not have asked more from an employer at the time and I am still grateful to him for his attention. -

Above all, I have to commend the former education system in the Yugoslav Army, which applied two hours of practical training immediately after learning the theoretical part. In the army, I applied and analysed my skills and acquired experience in leadership of small groups of people, particularly of young enthusiasts who mostly thought about leisurely passing their time. They got the job and they were happy. At the time, I discovered that people happiness even if unpaid is much better than no work at all. These people were asked to serve their country for nine months by which they performed voluntary work, which was great if they wanted to be productive. Technical skills and knowledge defined by scientific laws additionally enhanced my logical thinking and learning about functioning of different systems. I was enabled to do that by people who unselfishly shared their understanding, taught and sincerely directed me with their good advice. I am grateful to them for all my knowledge on leadership.
