I have discovered a new framework to solve the eigenvalue problem associated with a discontinuous domain of self-adjoint systems along with a new physical quantity to describe the discontinuity. Presently, I have applied the framework to the field of vibration based structural health monitoring, buckling of damaged columns and image processing of geographic information systems. Pedagogy for engineering education: There is a silent revolution that is happening in the world around us in the area of education. I have given about 11 invited talks, primarily in United States. Most of the places were struggling in dealing with the explosion in the number of engineering students, an opportunity or a challenge, depending on how you look at it. E-learning tools such as Moodle, Coursera, MIT open courseware etc., not only allow us to convert the challenge into an opportunity, but also allow us reach even those nooks and corners of the world that were heretofore untouched by high quality education. The bright from any corner of the world can now access education and contribute to the progress and well being of our planet and this gives me goosebumps! I am excited to be contributing to this area.
