Supporting intern and traditional student teachers through classroom observations, coaching, and lesson design support

Supervise the delivery of Special Education services across four sites, participate in the development of crisis intervention and discipline policies and procedures that are consistently applied to students; collaborate with site Principals to ensure school resources, including budget, master schedule, and staff support inclusion and intervention initiatives; Provide coaching and mentoring for Special Education teachers and Educational Assistants in the areas of classroom instruction/strategies, IEP development and management, compliance, high intensity cases, co-planning/co-teaching and other necessary areas; Monitor and maintain compliance for areas including: IEP meetings, eligibility meetings, Special Education student files, delivery of services, related services, and all other areas required to maintain in compliance with Federal Guidelines; Develop processes and procedures for special education students demonstrating significant discipline problems and intervene with supportive strategies, including student receiving Educationally Related Mental Health Services; Provide educational leadership in implementing State and Federal Special Education compliance items; Develop community partnerships to ensure various service delivery options.

Taught specifically designed literacy interventions that included phonological development activities, syllabication and advanced word analysis, fluency development, and explicit comprehension strategies.Taught Ancient Civilization using History Alive! Designed culminating unit activities to include a hands-on activity, as well as a written expression activity.Secretary and Sub-Committee Chair of the Teacher Retention Shared Decision Making Team: Team focus was investigating the cause of teacher attrition at Markham, and implementing structures that support teacher retention.Developed professional developments for Special Education department for monthly Common Planning sessions.7th/8th grade Special Education Teacher, Special Day Program; Taught Language! reading intervention program to 7th grade students with mild/moderate learning disabilities. Program emphasized the 6 major strands of literacy: grammar and usage, vocabulary and morphology, word recognition and spelling, phonemic awareness and phonics, speaking and writing, and listening and reading comprehension. Created a scaffolded, standards based curriculum for 8th grade students with mild/moderate learning disabilities. Participated in Teach for America's intensive six-week teacher training institute, while concurrently teaching summer school. Taught basic geometry to 7th and 8th grade students with mild/moderate learning disabilities. Attended monthly professional development workshops ranging from backwards planning, progress monitoring, classroom management, early literacy development, and accommodating for students with special needs.

The Institute consisted of a 3-day initial training, as well as 4 one-day follow up trainings for new teachers implementing Sopris West's Language! reading intervention program. Behavior Intervention Case Manager (BICM) training, March 2008Completed certification training to become a Behavior Intervention Case Manager. Certification allows the BICM to write Functional Behavior Analysis for students with challenging or maladaptive behaviors using the positive behavior management framework.
