I manage the team that's responsible for the Downstream Processing activities in the group at Pall Harbourgate. I oversee customer projects that require process development, scale-up and tech-transfer. I have worked on recombinant proteins, cell/gene therapy vectors and vaccines - including the development and scale-up of the University of Oxford and AstraZenica COVID-19 vaccine.

My role requires me to constantly seek and evaluate emerging and innovative technologies to improve bioprocessing for the mammalian manufacture of therapeutics.I am leading multiple innovation projects covering different scales of development and manufacturing which all require the planning, resourcing, analysing and reporting the findings efficiently. I am focussing on high throughput process development thought the strategic use of automated liquid handling systems and in the implementation of computational tools to help make process development decisions

My research in Professor Kleanthous' research group at the University of Oxford was focussed on soluble and membrane protein complexes that could be used in the development of novel therapeutic protein antibiotics.Preparation and purification of soluble proteins and multicomponent membrane protein complexes. Identifying favourable buffer conditions to give stable samples. Obtaining protein crystals and diffraction data in aqueous and lipidic conditions. Technical training of junior team members in complex data interpretation.

While working with Professor Bayliss at the University of Leicester I worked with a multidisciplinary team based in the Institute of Cancer Research (London) developing drug candidates for Multiple Myeloma. My distant location required excellent communication skills to limit project deviation and also drive to ensure project progress while distant from the project team.I prepared and suitably purified proteins to establish an advantageous crystallisation condition that allowed the rapid determination of the mechanism of interaction between the protein and the drug-candidate. This allowed a rapid cycle of directed development.
