The Production Software Development (PSD) team at the Sanger Institute develop and support bespoke LIMS tracking software to support the high throughput and manual sequencing pipelines being run in the laboratories on behalf of the faculty research groups and their external collaborators.This is a challenging role due to the rapidly changing library preparation and sequencing technologies being utilised and the high volume of samples being processed. We use an Agile approach to develop flexible LIMS tracking software that can cope with this environment.Main programming languages involved are Ruby on Rails and Javascript.

The Single Cell Genomics Core Facility (SCGCF) is a core facility service team supporting Faculty research groups that require single cell sequencing at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. We will take cell samples supplied by the research groups, isolate individual cells and lyse them, then prepare genome or transcriptome libraries for DNA-sequencing. We will be utilising high throughput laboratory instrumentation and automation to eventually process thousands of cell samples per day.My role in the SCGCF team will involve creation of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) interfaces to enable tracking of the samples through the sequencing library preparation pipeline, and to integrate the LIMS with other systems at the Sanger Institute. I will also help with applications development on the various instruments and automated systems used in the Laboratory, and their integration with the LIMS. Later I will be developing a data processing pipeline to post-process the large volumes of sequencing data produced from the cell samples.
