Dr Apeh Omede is a Lecturer in Animal Production at the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture. He is interested in researching the interphase between nutritional strategies for sustainable animal production, the environment and gut microbiota in farm animals. He combines experiences in both ruminant and monogastric nutrition and digestive physiology.Before joining the University of Tasmania, Dr Apeh Omede was a Marie Sklodowska-Curie COFUND Postdoctoral Fellow at Teagasc (Irish Agriculture and Food Development Authority), Moorepark Animal and Grassland Research and Innovation Centre in Fermoy, Ireland, exploring the influence of milk bioactive fractions and microbiota on gut health and development in pigs , and funded by European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. During the fellowship, he spent some time at the University of Leon, Spain as a visiting research fellow. Dr Apeh started his lecturing career at Kogi State University in Nigeria where he taught undergraduate and postgraduate diploma courses in and supervised honours students.He completed his PhD in Animal Science from the University of New England, Armidale, Australia. Dr Apeh has been recognized as a young scientist by Alltech Inc - USA through its Young Scientist Competition Program and by the World's Poultry Science Association through its World's Poultry Congress Youth Award Program and Young Scientist Competition.
