I tried to give up resume writing sooooo many times because I've been doing it unofficially since 2005.As a former unemployed college graduate during the Great Recession, cold resume applications were the only option for me at the time because my professional network consisted of mostly other college graduates in the same predicament as me.Even with several corporate internships, it seemed no one would hire me with a 20-foot pole. But, one online job search changed EVERYTHING for me. I didn't even apply for that job; they FOUND me!That's when I realized the power of a resume. This was the most exciting, challenging, and transformational experience of my life. I've always heard the term R&D, but I never knew what this secret department did. Once I landed in Silicon Valley and later moved to Los Angeles County, I quickly found out. I discovered that these roles were great but not what made me excited to get up in the morning. I missed my old career and employee development, my old team, and most of all, my family and friends on the East Coast. It was time for another change.

My previous role was a risk because it was a temporary project assignment with no guarantee that I'd still have a job after my two years were up. But near the end of my term, the team decided to keep me and give me HR generalist work in addition to my compliance duties.✅ I became a Certified Job and Career Coach✅ Absolutely fell in love with employee engagement and leadership development. ✅ Facilitated resume and career development workshops for both our corporate and manufacturing employees ✅ And learned all about HRIS and global performance management systems, leading a company-wide project my supervisor recommended me for.😢 However, all good things eventually come to an end. Soon, the company decided to relocate its corporate headquarters to Atlanta, GA, and I was part of the team that not only shared the news with our employees but also helped manage the process along the way.Organizational redesigns are never fun. However, it is the ultimate learning experience. After working with employees and coworkers and looking at myself in the mirror after experiencing workplace trauma, stress, and burnout, it was time to shift again.Only this time, I didn't want to move on because this was my first dream job with my favorite supervisor and amazing colleagues who felt like family.This is where the concept of Healing Work-Hurt™ originated. I had all the skills to move forward powerfully, but I didn't take the time to deal with the emotions, triggers, and sensitives that arise from such a difficult professional season.

This was my first job after I graduated with my MBA three months earlier. This is quite interesting because I HATED all of my human resources and management classes throughout school. I thought HR was boring, but boy, was I wrong!I learned everything about searching, applying, and getting hired for positions in Corporate America and five manufacturing plants in North and South Carolina.✅ I saw hundreds, if not thousands, of resumes—good, bad, horrendous, and amazing!✅ I heard the comments of hiring managers before, during, and AFTER the interview process.✅ I became quite familiar with the ATS (applicant tracking system) and learned how to manage responses to hundreds of applicants! After being an unemployed college graduate, it was a full circle moment for me to be the happy career fair lady, flying across the country to recruit new talent and be the happy face for those receiving job offers.However, I also became the recruiter on the other side of the phone and computer when bad news also needed to be shared. I apologize if you ever received that dreaded "Thank you for applying, but we decided to go with another candidate" email 🥺 because I sent over my fair share.
