About Prof Bela Arora

Dr Bela Arora is a strategic thinker, a quality enhancement enthusiast and experienced higher education professional. Her leadership experience in higher education includes being a Director of the Centre of Excellence in Learning & Teaching and a Graduate School Manager. She holds a PhD focusing on nuclear arms control, but additionally has a strong scholarly & policy interest in the fields of cyber security, anti-slavery and terrorism. She is adept at developing strategic partnerships and actively engages in income generation initiatives. Bela recently led on a successful bid to bring approximately £2million into the university through a government training contract. She was also instrumental in the University of South Wales becoming signatory of the UN Global Compact and UN Principles in Responsible Management Education. The University is the first higher education institution in Wales to be signatory of both initiatives. She has worked in some of the UK’s top universities such as Birmingham, Warwick and Cardiff, where she has engaged in strategic planning, policy development & lecturing. She has strong analytical skills and experience of research and consultancy at national & international level including high profile projects for the United Nations Global Compact, the British Standards Institute Sigma initiative and the International Business Leaders Forum on conflict diamonds. She has engaged with public and private sector organisations.Bela has engaged in shaping and influencing public policy as a member of the following groups:- Ethnic Minority Advisory Group (2008-09)- Learning Innovation Expert Group (2009)- Online Digital Learning Working Group (2013)- Welsh government led Strategic Multi-Agency Resilience Training Certificate (Gold qualification) - Steering Group member (2016-)- Wales Anti-Slavery Leadership Group (2016-)Bela is an active member of the British International Studies Association and is a past Chair of the British American Project, which is a 1000 member strong leadership network that aims to strengthen the special relationship. Bela has experience in the media. Since 2002, she has been a regular contributor on television & radio providing expert analysis on international affairs. Bela also regularly reviews the newspapers on BBC Radio Wales and has been quoted in the international press including the Los Angeles Times & CNN.Bela regards herself as a global citizen with a aptitude for languages (various levels of competency in Russian, French, Portuguese, Spanish).
